Description

This advanced micro-credential develops specialized expertise in the design, implementation, and protection of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems used in critical infrastructure and industrial environments. Aligned with EQF Level 7, the programme focuses on advanced SCADA architectures, industrial communication protocols, real-time monitoring and control, system reliability, and cybersecurity frameworks.

Knowledge

The learner will be able to:

  1. Critically analyze SCADA system architectures, including distributed control systems (DCS), PLC-based automation, and industrial communication networks.
  2. Evaluate industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, DNP3, IEC 60870-5-104, OPC UA).
  3. Examine SCADA integration within critical infrastructure sectors (energy, water, manufacturing, oil & gas).
  4. Analyze advanced data acquisition, real-time monitoring, and control strategies.
  5. Critically assess cybersecurity threats, vulnerabilities, and protection strategies in industrial control systems (ICS).
  6. Evaluate international standards and regulatory frameworks (e.g., IEC 62443, NERC CIP).
  7. Examine system reliability, redundancy, and resilience strategies in mission-critical environments.

Acquired Skills

Design and configure SCADA architectures for complex industrial environments. Implement secure industrial communication protocols and network segmentation strategies. Conduct risk assessment and vulnerability analysis of SCADA systems. Develop cybersecurity mitigation strategies aligned with industry standards. Analyze system performance data and optimize monitoring and control processes. Produce professional technical documentation and system architecture reports. Integrate PLCs, RTUs. HMIs and communication networks into secure supervisory control systems.

Competence

The learner will be able to:

  1. Lead the design and implementation of secure SCADA systems in critical infrastructure projects.
  2. Take strategic responsibility for reliability, safety, and cybersecurity compliance in industrial automation environments.
  3. Integrate multidisciplinary engineering knowledge to solve complex supervisory control challenges.
  4. Make informed decisions under uncertain or high-risk operational conditions.
  5. Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams and stakeholders in industrial settings.
  6. Ensure compliance with regulatory, safety, and quality standards.
